Quilts of Love Work Day: Our Kids & Chapman University Class
Saturday, February 27, was a wonderful day of togetherness for the kids of the Language Center and graduate students of a class in Communication Disorders at Chapman University taught by Dr. Candace Vickers. When Dr. Vickers approached us with a proposal for a joint activity we were thrilled. The staff and I came up with the idea of having our students create and decorate squares of fabric based on the theme of "loving". Once decorated the sections will be incorporated into quilts created by our own Ellen Bradley (wife of Dean Bradley and prize-winning quiltmaker) and Ruth Honer (a woman of many talents and a big heart) of the Language Center.
Despite the weather, our kids and the students were very productive. By day's end we all felt grateful to be part of such a rewarding enterprise. Much was accomplished. We have the makings of several beautiful quilts that will be auctioned at future fundraising events throughout the year. The quilts will be beautiful keepsakes and each one is a masterpiece of loving hands.
Future workshops will be planned for quilts to be donated to CHOC and sent to service men.
Thank you to all participants, parents, siblings and Chapman University students. Thank you to Dr. Candace Vickers for her suggestions and choosing us for this special collaboration. A special thank you to Ellen Bradley for her guidance and talent throughout the entire process! Thank you Ruth, you are special.
